Exploring The World Of Dentistry

Going to the dentist was always a bit of a thrill for me. I'm not quite sure if it was my mother's promise to pay me $5 for each cavity free visit or the awesome toys my dentist kept in the waiting room that led to my initial love of dentistry, but one thing is for sure. My early love of dentistry has helped me to maintain a healthy and beautiful smile throughout my entire life. I am convinced that the more we know about dentistry and how it can impact our lives, the more likely we will be to develop good oral hygiene habits. That is why I have decided to start this blog so that everyone can have access to the latest information in the world of dentistry.

Two Tips to Prevent the Wires on Your Bionator from Bending

A misaligned jaw can be the beginning of a number of dental issues. When your jaw grows out of alignment, you most likely will have to deal with either an overbite or an underbite. Both issues can make it difficult to enjoy speaking or eating. In order to get this quickly fixed, your dentist may recommend a bionator in order to position your lower jaw right below your upper jaw. This device can be extremely effective as long as the wires remain in good condition. However, wires on many dental appliances, including a bionator, can quickly become bent due to poor care. Bent wires will prevent the bionator from operating correctly. Therefore, use these tips to prevent your bionator from bending.

Avoid Chewing on Your Device

You can easily remove and reinstall bionators on your own. This is sometimes done to make the cleaning process much easier and prevent bacteria growth due to lack of cleaning. However, this also makes it easier to play around with the device while it is in your mouth and chew on it. If you regularly chew or bite down on your bionator, then you risk the chance of bending the wires on the dental device. Bent wires will need to be taken to a dentist so that they can be refit to the shape of your mouth. In order to avoid this issue, your device should either be completely removed or installed. The wires on a bionator are designed to last with reasonable wear and tear, but constantly chewing on them can quickly break them down.

Avoid Eating Foods That Are Difficult to Chew

Foods that are difficult to chew are often too aggressive on natural teeth. They are even more aggressive when eaten using a dental appliance.  If these foods are eaten while wearing a bionator, then they can cause the wires on the device to bend. Steaks and apples are good examples of foods that can end up damaging the wires on your bionator. If you still want to enjoy some of these foods, then you can eat them when they are soft. For example, apples can be turned into applesauce, which is a lot gentler on your dental appliance.

Bent wires can put a hold on any progress you may have made while wearing the bionator. Therefore, use these tips to help make sure that your device remains in good health until your jaw is corrected.
